These Pictures Explain Why Changi Airport Is Still The World’s Best
More than 13 million travellers have named Changi Airport the world’s best for a record sixth consecutive year.
Way to humble brag, Changi
The travellers were polled for the annual Skytrax World Airport Awards, one of the most prestigious accolades in the aviation industry.
Here are the rankings of global airports this year:
1. Singapore Changi Airport (Singapore)
2. Incheon International Airport (Seoul, South Korea)
3. Haneda International Airport (Tokyo, Japan)
4. Hong Kong International Airport (Hong Kong SAR)
5. Hamad International Airport (Doha, Qatar)
6. Munich Airport (Munich, Germany)
7. Chubu Centrair International Airport (Nagoya, Japan)
8. London Heathrow Airport (London, United Kingdom)
9. Zurich Airport (Zurich, Switzerland)
10. Frankfurt Airport (Frankfurt, Germany)
And we’re the first airport that has won the top accolade six years in a row since 1999. Swee!
Let the pictures speak for themselves
All aboard for a visual tour of Changi Airport.
When you first walk in, an enchanting kinetic rain installation welcomes you.
Aesthetic really is our middle name — just look at the futuristic, sleek design of Terminal 4.
Not to mention our transit areas, which are drop dead gorgeous.
Once you’re done being awe-struck over the interior, let’s see what activities Changi has in store for the weary traveller.
These are just as lauded as Changi’s design — Skytrax deemed them the world’s best leisure amenities at an airport.
And with good reason: you can even play beach volleyball and soccer while waiting for your flight.
Well, not exactly. But close enough: Terminal 2’s entertainment deck houses Xbox Kinect, Xbox 360 and PlayStation consoles that can keep you hooked for hours.
How about karaoke? MTV booths scattered around the transit area let you sing along to your favorite tunes.
Film and sport buffs, Changi Airport has also got you covered. Watching blockbusters and sports matches on the big screen for free? One word: Shiok.
Those seeking a more relaxing transit can sign up for spa services instead.
And if all you need is a quick nap, there are free snooze lounges throughout the transit area.
With a stunning view of planes taking off and landing, might I add.
I almost missed a flight once because I was so comfy — be sure to set an alarm, hor.
Inner child doesn’t wanna rest? Then treat yourself to a ride on the world’s longest indoor slide in an airport!
Or make a splash! For $17, you can cool off at the Transit Hotel’s rooftop pool.
To complete the relaxation package, there’s even a poolside bar and jacuzzi.
Nature fans, there’s also something for you: a whole cactus garden at Terminal 1.
And at Terminal 2, sunflowers waiting to populate your IG feed.
The garden never ends: here’s the Enchanted Garden at Terminal 3.
Never a dull moment
But all these amazing amenities and activities didn’t pop up by accident.
They’re the results of a lot of hard work put in by Changi Airport’s 50,000 employees.
With Jewel Changi Airport slated to open next year, we hope it gives us a competitive edge as we chase that 7-year streak.
Or maybe even 10 years?
Go big or go home right.
