Singapore And Malaysia’s Police Forces Combine To Bring Down Criminals
When Singapore and Malaysia join forces, pretty much anything is possible.
A great example of this is the upcoming high-speed rail, which will reduce travel time between the 2 capitals to 90 minutes.
The 2 countries showed off their “dream team” realness once again this month, when they joined hands to bring a couple of bad guys to justice.
38-year-old crime? No biggie for the dream team
In the most recent case, Singapore tapped on cooperation from Malaysian authorities to finally arrest a criminal who was on the run for 38 years.
63 year-old Seow Lam Seng was arrested in Malaysia last week for the unlawful possession of a firearm, after evading capture since the 1980s.
Here’s how he got on the wrong side of the law.
In 1980, Seow was at Tanjong Katong Road with his friend Lee Ah Fatt when two police officers stopped them for behaving suspiciously.
Upon inspection, Seow was allegedly found carrying a pistol at his waist.
His friend Lee was also armed, and drew his own pistol and pointed it at officers.
One of the officers then shot at Lee with his service revolver.

A scuffle broke out between Lee and the officers, giving Seow just enough time to escape.
While Lee eventually died of his injuries, Seow made a great escape and had been on the run ever since.
The law eventually caught up with Seow last Thursday (22 Mar), when Malaysian authorities nabbed him in Penang.
Our boys in blue revealed that they had been reviewing the case regularly to track Seow down.
But as Criminal Investigation Department Director Tan Chye Hee pointed out, the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) was instrumental to Seow’s capture.
The arrest and extradition of the suspect after 38 years on the run would not be possible without the strong support from the RMP, our closest crime-fighting partner.
Seow was extradited to Singapore on Saturday. If convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm, he faces life in prison.
Had he been younger than 50 years old, he would also face up to six strokes of the cane.
But given his age, he will be spared corporal punishment.
22-year-old crime? No biggie for the dream team
Singapore Police Force (SPF) and their Malaysian counterparts also cracked another cold case, this time over an armed robbery outside an OCBC branch at Yuan Kuang Road in 1996.
Two knife-wielding men had stolen more than S$40,000 from a man outside the bank.
The first was caught and convicted that year itself.
But his acquaintance, 59 year-old Singaporean Foo Siang Thian evaded arrest for more than 20 years.
Foo was eventually arrested in Kuala Lumpur on 5 Mar, thanks to the strong support of RMP.
In a statement, SPF’s Deputy Assistant Commissioner Chee, said:
I would like to thank the RMP for their efforts to locate and arrest the suspect. Through good partnership with foreign law enforcement agencies, the police will persevere and ensure that criminals are brought back to face justice regardless of how long it takes.
We’re glad that we can count on our neighbours to have our backs, because that’s what we’d like to think of as #friendshipgoals.
